base, ABB is building links to the new economy. The ABB Group employs
about 160,000 people in more than 100 countries. ABB Industrial Systems
manufactures a range of sophisticated Measurement & Control Systems
for the Pulp and Paper Industry.
Situation
Measuresoft
partnered with ABB Industrial Systems to develop Open Data Logging
Software for ABB Customers in the Process Industry. The new OPC
Knowledge Provider enhances customer benefits associated with
enterprise-wide integration.
Solution
The ABB OPC
Knowledge Provider is an integrated data logging system designed and
developed specifically using OLE for Process Control (OPC) standards and
the Microsoft Windows DNA for Manufacturing framework. It is capable of
acquiring data from any OPC compliant data source and will support
multiple OLE-DB data stores such SQL Server, Access etc. While the OPC
Knowledge Provider can be utilised as a standalone product it was
designed to also act as a data server and provides an infrastructure for
process monitoring and reporting application development. The OPC
Knowledge Provider is a key enabler for ABBs OPC Knowledge Solutions
and has been utilised to provide applications for the Pulp & Paper
Industry. Examples of these are Production Monitor & Reporting,
Sheetbreak Monitor & Reporting, Sensor Quality Analysis Monitor
& Reporting and AccuRay QCS Report Historian.

Benefits
About OPC
OPC consists
of a standard set of interfaces, properties, and methods for use in
process-control and manufacturing-automation applications to enable
communication among diverse process control devices, regardless of the
controlling software. OPC is based on Microsoft's OLE (now ActiveX),
Component Object Model (COM) and Distributed Component Object Model
(DCOM) technologies. The OPC standard was developed and is being
maintained by the OPC Foundation, an independent, non-profit
consortium of more than 200 companies, including Measuresoft and ABB.
About OPC
Foundation
